The Multipurpose iPhone Solar Charger

surge-iphone.pngThe reason the Surge is such a popular idea is because of the versatility of having a self contained power station attached to your iPhone and iPod. Not only are you able to make use of the most portable source of energy (the sun), but the extended battery life is big incentive.

The Surge automatically charges your iPhone 3GS using the built-in rechargeable battery. Anytime you expose the Surge to sunlight the solar panels convert the sun’s energy to electricity. That extra boost of power is then stored in the internal Surge battery, so now you’ve got two fully charged batteries to keep your iPhone fully powered.

Practical example

Let’s say I’m sick of spreadsheets and TPS reports (go figure) and I’ve decided to go hiking and camping for three days. The great outdoors! But I can’t survive without my iPhone.

Each day I’ll only spend about…

- 20 minutes talking on my iphone
- 15 minutes watching YouTube videos
- 5 hours of music
- 2 hours of browsing the internet

With the Surge I only have to keep my solar charger in the sun less than an hour and a half! That’s easy to do since I can just hang it on the outside of my backpack as I’m hiking through the woods.
